EBITDA
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
EBITDA strips out financing and non-cash charges to approximate cash operating performance. Useful for comparing companies with different capital structures, but criticized — including by Warren Buffett — because depreciation reflects real economic wear-and-tear and shouldn't be ignored.
